Course Offering

Royal Hairstyles offers a high quality hairdressing training program, focused on the ethnic hair care market.
In order to ensure that students are able to receive individual attention, class sizes are kept small, between 10-20 students per class. Additionally, the company has built relationships with salons to ensure that students are placed in internships and will have employment opportunities after graduation.

One key element of the institution is fostering an entrepreneurial spirit amongst its students. Whether owning his/her own salon or working at someone else's, we believe it is important for hairdressers to think entrepreneurially when building and maintaining a clientele. To that end, Royal Hairstyles offers courses specifically tailored towards developing skills to starting and running a business and will offer students support post graduation to help those interested in achieving this goal.

12 Month Programme

The 12 Month Programme lasts for 1 year in class, followed by a 12-18 month paid internship. This program is catered to individuals who have little to no experience in the hairdressing industry, but have the passion and dedication necessary to fulfill the requirements of the program.

The course work is divided between practical and theoretical components. Students are typically in class for 5 days per week for 5 hours per day. After having completed their course work, students then must complete an internship for 12 - 18 months, whereby they must work under a certified stylist in order to receive their full qualifications.

Royal Hairstyles has built relationships with salons that will ensure that the students are able to secure internships under qualified stylists. After having completed the course work and internship based on SETA standards, the student's name will be submitted to SETA to take the trade test. Once he or she has passed the trade test, the student will be officially certified as a hairdresser!

The price covers the following: tuition, books, uniform, equipment, assessments, use of products, use of salon equipment, use of hairpieces.

The cost of the course is R2,917 / month for 12 months.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program

For hairstylists that are eligible to take the trade test under SETA's Recognition of Prior Learning Program (RPL), we will offer a 5 hour per day, 2 week intensive course which properly prepares them for the exam. To be eligible for this course, you must be able to prove that you have at least 4 years of hairdressing experience.

The price of the course is R1,710 / student.

6 Month Programme

This programme is similar to the 12 month course, but is geared towards individuals who are unable to afford to pay the fees for the 12 month course and/or would prefer to start working after 6 months as opposed to 12.  Like the 12 month course, this programme is catered to individuals who have little to no experience in the hairdressing industry, but have the passion and dedication necessary to fulfill the requirements of the programme.  The course work is divided between practical and theoretical components.  Students are typically in class for 5 days per week for 5 hours per day. 

After having completed their course work, students then must complete a learnership for twenty-four to thirty months at a Royal Hairstyles Salon.  If there are not available spaces at a Royal Hairstyles Salon, then the students will be placed in a learnership at another reputable establishment.  After having completed the course work and learnership based on SSETA standards, each student's name will be submitted to SSETA to take the trade test.  Once he/she has passed the trade test, the student will be officially certified as a hairdresser.  Royal Hairstyles offers placement services to its students to ensure employment post graduation.

The price covers the following: tuition, books, uniform, equipment, assessments, use of products, use of salon equipment, use of hairpieces.

Price: R2,000 / month (VAT inclusive) over 6 months.

Refresher Course Offering

Advanced Relaxer, Cut & Style

Over a 4 day period, students will learn the basic techniques used when relaxing a woman's hair. Facilitators will refresh students on the theory of relaxing, demonstrate the proper technique for relaxing virgin hair vs. retouching and monitor students as they apply what they have learned. Students will be awarded certificates upon successful completion of the class. This course is designed for experienced hairdressers.

BoyCut Razor

Over a 4 day period, students will learn how to perform the bonding technique of weaving. One of South Africa's most popular hairstyles, facilitators will take learners through the process of ensuring that a client's hair extensions are put on properly. This course is designed for experienced hairdressers.

Each student must bring his own tools: SET OF COMBS, HANDRYER, SCISSORS, SET OF IRONS, BOWL, TINTIN BRUSH, HAIR PIN, SPRAY BOTTLE, ROLLERS, TOWELS, CAPES, WOOL, RAZOR, NEEDLE.

The price covers the following: HAND DRYER, COMB SET (10 Piece), STRAIGHTENER, RAZOR

The course costs R1,300 / student.
